Nostalgia
SOLD NZ $790
On completion of this New Zealand Kākā I felt a nostalgic connection to this piece. This Kākā, its posture, and its eyes seem to radiate a sentimentality for the past. In the past Kākā were abundant in New Zealand, but they had evolved in the absence of mammalian predators and were easy prey when mammals were introduced. This and other changes to their environment led to a decline in numbers. Thankfully, more recent conservation work (from the 1990’s) has seen Kākā numbers rise, but there is still more work to be done to make sure they reign over our forests again! “Nostalgia” was inspired using a reference photo taken by Lynne Jamneck.
